
H.P. Lovecraft contributed greatly to the field of macabre fiction, but some argue that he wrote a kind of science fiction. The terrible and evil gods of the Cthulhu Mythos were extra-terrestrial aliens, not supernatural deities, and travel through time and space was accomplished through mathematics, rather than magic. Lovecraft's stories hint at a kind of cosmic horror, driven by the minuteness of mankind in a universe of uncaring and omnipotent forces. This shirt features a subtle dark gray design of stars and a splattered rendition of Cthulhu, printed on the left side of the shirt, overlaid with white tentacles descending menacingly down from the shoulder. The text down the side is from the opening lines of The Call of Cthulhu: 'We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far...'
