The third volume in the H.P. Lovecraft Collection contains some of our favorite Lovecraft inspired films. The sublime Out of Mind seamlessly melds a stealth Lovecraft documentary using dialog gathered from his numerous letters and story fragments from his mythos woven into a fascinating tapestry of the Lovecraftian world. The film also introduces us to Lovecraft the person (through the brilliant characterization by Christopher Heyerdahl). There are also lots of in-jokes and references for the astute fan. Even some unnamable iridescent protoplasma show up but the filmmakers wisely keep their on-screen time very short, hinting at them rather then attempting to gross anyone out.

The plot revolves around a modern day artist who inherits a copy of the Necronomicon, which begins a series of nightmare excursions into his familial past and to the dream world meeting with Lovecraft himself.

The disc also includes John Strysik's The Music of Erich Zann (now with the new 5.1 dolby surround sound mix) and Aaron Vanek's The Outsider & My Necronomicon.

Out of Mind: The Stories of HP Lovecraft, the acclaimed Bravo! television movie, stars Christopher Heyerdahl (Kingdom Hospital, Stargate Atlantis, Smallville) and Michael Sinelnikoff (If Looks Could Kill, The Lost World: The Series). The film is a quasi-documentary about Lovecraft in which the author interacts with one of his fictional characters with dialogue taken directly from Lovewcraft's collected personal letters and elements from multiple of his short stories such as "The Statement of Randolph Carter" and "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward." There is a plethora of allusions to Lovecraft's mythos for the astute fan, but the film is also a great primer on the philosophy and literary works of HP Lovecraft for the uninitiated. The film includes two audio commentaries both featuring actor Christopher Heyerdahl and director Raymond Saint-Jean, with cinematographer Serge Ladouceur joining them on the second track.
