Prehistoric civilizations often associated the fertility of the earth with the concept of the sacred feminine. As such, both the Earth and the moon, with its monthly cycle that seemed to represent the progression of life and birth, were typically associated with an archetypal mother goddess. Modern Wiccans revere the Mother Goddess as Mother, Maiden, and Crone, representing the cycle of the harvest. Here, the Goddess is shown dimly, amidst the mists on the heath, basked in blue moonlight, wearing the Lunar circlet and offering up a sacred cup. At the center is a bold white pentagram that represents the four elements, earth, air, wind, and fire, plus the fifth magickal element of spirit.
