
H.P. Lovecraft contributed greatly to the field of macabre fiction, but some argue that he wrote a kind of science fiction. The terrible and evil gods of the Cthulhu Mythos were extra-terrestrial aliens, not supernatural deities, and travel through time and space was accomplished through mathematics, rather than magic. Lovecraft's stories hint at a kind of cosmic horror, driven by the minuteness of mankind in a universe of uncaring and omnipotent forces. This shirt features the blurred face and skull of an individual, gone insane from this revelation, beset by monstrous green tentacles in a field of sparse silver stars. The text down the side is from the opening lines of The Call of Cthulhu: 'We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far...'
